01:10:14:24/ Chiefs @ Chargers
Matt Cassel back at QB for the Chiefs, Brady Quinn out with a concussion. Norv Turner not out yet in San Diego but there was a report in San Diego speculating that he would be if he lost this one. Chargers looked early on like they really didn’t want that to happen. Came out strong. Rivers looking up with Adjirotutu, just signed with the team on Tuesday. Getting a lot of playing time with Meachem and Royal out. Comes down with a nice catch there that sets up a touchdown four plays later. San Diego’s first since the first half of week 6. Antonio Gates scored that touchdown back then, scores this one also and they get the ball right back here. Chiefs coughing it up on their next drive. Bowe charged with this fumble here, the first one that he has lost in his entire career. It was caused by Donald Butler and was recovered by Quentin Jammer? Chargers turned it into a FG. Chiefs added a FG on their next drive and its 10-3 here, Chargers threatening to score. Rivers a perfect 13 of 13 through the air but he didn’t like what he saw there and he is perfect no longer. Although that’s still a good play. This, this is not. This throw, poor decision right there by #17, looking for Dante Rosario. He finds Eric Berry wearing a KC Chiefs uniform instead. A frustrating end to a great first half and the man’s led a on his way off the field. Listen to this. Yikes. We’ll pick it up in the fourth quarter with the Chargers up 10-6 after running the ball 7 straight times. Rivers to Malcolm Floyd. Rivers finished 18 to 20 for two 22 scores and a pick and Floyd celebrates the start of the NBA season by making like former SD Clipper Michael Cage and finishing up strong. Ensuing Chiefs possession, it got uglier. Matt Cassel play action out of the end zone. Jared Johnson scripts it, Shaun Phillips? Recovers, his 3rd touchdown of his career. Johnson just running free, blasting past Donald Stevenson. Chargers up 24-6. Afterward Johnson over to Nick to celebrate who is obviously hard headed. Put your helmet on next time chief! Come on man! It got worse for Kansas City. Ensuing chiefs possession, Charles gets lit up by Donald Butler, the NFLs 7th leading rusher down for the count. Preliminary reports say an injured neck, reevaluated when he gets back to Kansas City. Next play, Cassel. Don’t blame this one on him. Looking for Dexter McCluster, off his mitts, Demorrio Williams the former Chief returned it 59 yards, his first pick since ’07 results in his first career touchdown. Chiefs have turned it over 29 times, that’s 1 more than all of last season. And yes, Kansas City has still not led a game in regulation this year as they fall to 1 and 7 for the 2nd time in four years. As for the Chargers, they say, “get off our coach!”
01:13:34:28/ Dolphins @ Colts
You thought this game could have playoff implications back in September, but it does. Ryan Tannehill getting the start, Andrew Luck has been great at home. Let’s see if he can continue. Colts second possession, down 3 zip, pocket collapsing, Andrew Luck rolls to his right, finds TY Hilton for a gain of 25 yards. First and 10 on the Dolphins 42. There’s gotta be some kind of Hilton endorsement for him. Couple of plays later, Reggie Wayne for some reason is single covered. Touchdown. High five me Reggie! High five me again! He’s a man of the people, Reggie Wayne. Colts lead it by the score of 7-3. Dolphins have the ball. Its Ryan Tannehill looking, turn on your Hartline! Halls it in for the 35 yard catch, first and 10 on the Colts 45. Second quarter now, four plays later. 2nd and 8 on the Colts 31, Tannehill looking for Charles Clay. Look how deep this Miami backfield is! Charles Clay is in the end zone, 31 yards away. Dolphins up 10-7. Take another look. Tannehill gets a great matchup Clay outruns Pat Anger? Into the end zone for the score. So the colts get the ball back. First and 10 at their own 20, first play of the drive Luck off play action looking for Donnie Avery. 48 yards later he’s got him, into double coverage, what a pass. First and 10 on the Dolphins 32. Take another look, Luck with a free play. Just said, “Hey, I’m going to take a chance deep.” And just drops it in there, splitting double coverage. The drive would end with a 23 yard Adam Vinatieri FG. Game tied at 10. Dolphins get the ball, first and 10 on the Colts 18, Reggie Bush! Looks like he’s playing against Fresno State at USC. 18 yd touchdown. Dolphins up 17-10. Take another look. Watch this run by Bush. He runs left, he stops, he cuts it back. Makes three guys miss, four, five! See you can count because you can see the numbers on the screen. I watch a lot of Sesame Street with my daughter, that’s how I know. Six! We need the Count on this highlight. Six. Six. Dolphins score on all three of their possessions to start the game. Colts final drive, 34 seconds left in the half, Luck throws an open TY Hilton who drops the sure touchdown. Watch it again, Hilton runs past Sean Smith but just can’t haul it in. In his hands, Colts would settle for a 47 yard Vin FG, 17-13 into the halftime. Third quarter, Colts still trailing 17-13. Luck going deep for a double covered TY Hilton, Hey I’m gonna go back to ya! And he comes through. Jumps in front of the defenders for a 36 yd touchdown. Hilton 6 for 102 yds and a score on the day. What was it I said about Andrew Luck being good at home? Yeah, you might wanna watch out for that. Fourth quarter Colts ball, tied at 20. Luck throws down the middle to Reggie Wayne, he gains 6 and a first down. Luck, 204 yds and a touchdown on third downs in this game. 204 and the score on 3rd down, he’s falling down and he completes it to Reggie Wayne who is falling down. You talk about guys being insane, two guys falling down, throwing passes to each other. Colts get the ball back, same score, 3rd and 4. Luck’s pass is almost picked off by Sean Smith. Hits the ground, correct call. Colts will be forced to punt. Look at it again. Right there. Had it the first time around but the bounce hit the ground. Dolphins have the ball 3rd and 15 in their own 45, Tannehill looking for Devon Bess. Just overthrown. It’s incomplete. Indianapolis maintains the 23-20 lead, next play Tannehill rolls right, throws left. It’s caught by Daniel Thomas but is short of the first down by a yard, Colts would win it. 23-20.
01:17:48:01/ Bills @ Texans
Bills and the Texans, Supernaw back in the lineup. Dun dun…meanwhile Arian Foster entering Sunday leading the NFL with 10 touchdowns this season. 1st quarter no score, 1st and 10 on the Bills 39. Matt Schaub, play action bootleg. Look at Owen Daniels. He’s covered like a blanket. Actually, he’s absolutely wide open for a touchdown. Daniels fifth touchdown of the season. What a huge find he’s beat. Just a few years returned from that knee surgery. Second quarter. Bills trailing 7 to nothing. 2nd and 9 on the Bills 19, Mario Williams beats Derek Newton and sacks his former teammate, Matt Schaub. Dun dun dun dun dun dun dun. Four and a half sacks on the season now for Mario Williams. Bills’ defense would force the Texans to try a 46 yd FG, 3 plays later which was blocked. Texans lead 7-0. Second quarter, Ryan Fitzpatrick in trouble, finds CJ Spiller. Takes it, what looks to be a short gain, 28 yds down the sideline. Ryan Lindell would miss a 37 yd FG though. Bills still trail 7-0. 16 seconds left in the second half, there he is, JJ Watt, everyone’s defensive MVP with a sack. 10 and a half sacks in the season now force the Bills to kick a FG. Texans lead at the half 7-6. 3rd quarter, Texans first possession, Matt Schaub looking deep along the sideline for Andre Johnson who catches it! It’s been a rare sight this season, Andre Johnson catching a long pass! 34 yds, it’s his 94th straight game with a catch and no surprise here, Arian Foster in the end zone, number 11 on the season. Texans lead by the score of 14-6. Thank you. You’re welcome. Nice play. Fourth quarter, Texans lead 14-9. Schaub looking for Andre Johnson again. Yes, Andre Johnson. Wait, we’re gonna see him twice in this highlight? Yes! Look at this. 18yd gain, Johnson, over 100 yards. 8 catches for a buck 18. Welcome back to relevance Andre Johnson. 3 plays later, its 3rd and goal from the five. Garrett Graham catches the touchdown pass from Schaub its 21-9. Schaub would go for 268 and 2 scores on the day. Bills have now been outscored 90-28 in the 4th quarter. Oh, if only games were only three quarters long. Texans get the ball back still leading 21-9. Arian Foster goes for 19 yds, 111 and a score on the day. Mario Williams no answer in stopping his old teammates. Boy, that guy is even better than I remember he was. Bills get the ball back 3:21 left to go. Fitzpatrick, scrambles, gets hit, he fumbles. Quintin Demps recovers for the Texans. The rookie LB out of Illinois comes up with a big hit to clinch the game, the Texans win it. By the final of 21-9. Looks bad when you look at the replay Ryan Fitzpatrick, sorry my friend. Fitzpatrick does go for 239 on the day. 25 out of 38 in the loss.
01:20:50:00/ Ravens @ Browns
The Ravens visiting the red hot Browns. Brandon Weeden and company have won 2 out of 3, well, that’s red hot for Cleveland. Ray Rice just 42 yds rushing week 7 against the Texans, a little bit of a different story today. First quarter, no score, there goes Ray Rice for 11. First down Ravens on the Browns 36, 4 plays later, here goes Ray Rice and he is into the end zone! Touchdown Rice! Timeout Nicks. Ravens lead 7 nothing. The first opening drive touchdown for the Ravens this season. Next Ravens possession, Joe Flacco looking for Torrey Smith. What a catch by Torrey Smith, watch it again. Leaps over Joe Haden. As good as Joe Haden is, not a lot you can do right there. Ravens first down on the Browns 17. Five plays later, its Bernard Pierce time. It very rarely is Bernard Pierce time but this is, yes, touchdown Bernard Pierce! Ravens lead 14 nothing. Yeah, Marv did the game today. 3rd quarter Browns ball, down 14-9. Brandon Weeden looking for Jordan Cameron but its picked off by Carry Williams who has turned into a heck of a ball hog for the Ravens. He’s got a 52yd return on this play. Its 26yds backwards before he turns it back forwards and then goes forward another 26yds. Ravens take over on the Browns 39. I would need oxygen. I mean, I’d need a ton of it. I need a ton of it just for watching this. Forget about running it back. Two Ravens possessions later, 2nd and 10 on their own 29. Ray Rice looking to run left and he is stopped by Dukembe Mtumbo for no gain. Mtumbo gets up giving the big finger wag, actually its Phillip Taylor giving the Mtumbo finger wag. Nuh uh. 3rd and 10 Joe Flacco is sacked. Ravens will be forced to punt. Since scoring on their first 2 drives, Ravens punted 6 times in a row. This Browns defense has been playing so much better these past two weeks. We go to the fourth quarter. Browns ball. Down 14-12. Brandon Weeden looking for Josh Gordon his playmaker. 18yd touchdown. Gordon in the end zone. He has become, he is the best rookie receiver in the NFL. Jumps in the stands but oh wait, you see the yellow, flag. Browns get called for illegal formation. Jimmy Haslam the Browns owner, no! They would settle for another Phil Dawson FG. Had a heck of a day. Take a 15-14 lead. The Ravens, now trailing. Flacco looking for Anquan Boldin. He’s come on great the last few weeks. The Ravens down at their own 40. 3 plays later, 2nd and 7 on the Browns 39, Ray Rice time again. Rice goes left. He picks up 10 yards and the 1st down. Ravens first down on the Browns 29. 3 plays later, 3rd and 10 on the Browns 19. 8th play of the drive, Ravens looking for a big play and Joe Flacco finds it to Torrey Smith. Cut back outside! Good job Torrey Smith, into the end zone for a touchdown. Flacco would convert a 2 point conversion to Anquan Boldin. Ravens lead 22-15. Here’s the Browns last chance, 4th and 2 on their own 28. Weeden looking for Greg Little. Well at least Little didn’t drop it. Way overthrown. Weeden dejected. Ravens win it. 25-15.
01:24:15:24/ Broncos @ Bengals
Begals played host to the Broncos. Andy Dalton against Peyton Manning. Andy Dalton, 6 picks in his last three games. What’s up with that. Peyton manning 7-0 in his career against the Bengals. We pick it up 2nd quarter, game all tied at 3. Peyton Manning has found something he likes in Demarius Thomas. He’s got him open down the left side. That is perfect. It doesn’t have that Aaron Rodgers tightness on that spiral but it is always delivered in the perfect spot. When Peyton came into the league there weren’t 6’3” 6’4” wide receivers that weighed 235 like Thomas. He’s thinking, I like these new toys. Absolutely. The same year the Broncos drafted Thomas in the first round, they also took Eric Decker. Picks up a block here and finds his way to the end zone. Another big, fast guy. 8 play, 80yd drive. 10-3. I think they found their rhythm. Obviously, new faces in the huddle. Peyton knocking off some of the rust. Well the rust is gone, and everyone is very familiar with each other inside that Bronco huddle. And understanding. And that’s what you’re looking for. That’s a great point. They’re now all on Peyton’s page. Absolutely. When we show a kickoff return here, that’s for one of 2 reasons. Yes. Either a fumble or a touchdown. Holliday, 105yd return for a touch. The Broncos now leading by 14. Sometimes we’ve gotta just show one just to dispute that myth. Cincinnati, next possession. Andy Dalton’s got a talented young side in him. Jermaine Gresham, nice job buying extra time and eventually finding an open Gresham, he finds his way to a 52yd Bengal game. This is the guy they need to get more balls to. We talk about Hernandez, we talk about Gronkowski, we talk about Jimmy Graham, he was in the same draft class with all the monsters too. Athletically, he should be on pace with the boys. AJ Green 7 catches, 99yds and that touchdown. 6 straight games now fellas, with an AJ Green touchdown catch. Beating Champ Bailey there. Georgia on Georgia crime. AJ Green, just under 100 yards with that 99. Back comes Peyton Manning. Play action but intercepted. Come on Eric Decker. Maybe I’m covering for the QB but either become the DB and don’t give it away or cut that route off and become more abrupt. Cross the face, always. This one, gotta be on Peyton Manning. The wide receiver has got to be faster. Two first quarter interceptions by Terrence Newman. Fourth quarter, a couple of plays later on 2nd and 4. Andy Dalton out of the shotgun looking for AJ Green, 19yd gain. Bengals were in a hole as you just saw. They were down and they responded. They took these 2 Peyton Manning turnovers and made points out of them. Benjarvis GreenEllis, the leading rusher for the Bengals. His touchdown made it 20-17. Peyton Manning, Eric Decker, 30yd gain. Big and strong and fast. Eric Decker, Demarius Thomas combined for 176 receiving yds today. Not a bad afternoon. Just like AJ Green, Decker had 99yds receiving and that’s a touchdown to Dreisen.4 catches today. Showed up. Eight different Broncos caught passes from Peyton Manning today. Typical Peyton. 24-20, Dalton now looking for AJ Green and the other former Bulldog, that’s Champ Bailey. That’s again, bulldog on bulldog crime. That play is made because of a solid pass rush up front. So what’s Decker going to do with it? They give it to Peyton Manning who finds Decker, outstanding touchdown catch. I think Peyton was trying to throw the back shoulder fade but he threw to the front shoulder of the cornerback and Eric Decker just made a great catch. Peyton Manning, 27 out of 35, 3 touchdowns, had a couple of picks. For the first time in five weeks he threw less than 300yds. For the first time in forever he threw not one interception but two interceptions. He’s just average. Pathetic.
01:28:26:24/ Bears @ Titans
Games going final now including the Bears and the Titans. Chris Johnson, been hot recently. You see how we do against Brian Urlacher. He just drank some fumbling juice is what he did. Something a little bit about Charles Tillman here. Charles is the best in the NFL at forcing fumbles. In fact, I have a nugget for you here Paul, in his career, peanut Tillman has caused 36 forced fumbles. Do you know how many Ray Lewis, maybe the best defender in our lifetime? 19 forced fumbles. That’s a blocked punt by the way. But I just needed the extra time to tell you how good peanut Tillman has been at creating turnovers. Watch the special teams again. McManus with the punt, Corey on the touchdown. This is where you talk about team complimentary football. This is why the team is scary. They can do all three phases. Pass rush coming around for the bears too. This is what you love and honestly, when you can rush three and four and not have to manufacture a pass pressure in this business, you always have a chance to be successful. That’s been their key all year is being able to pressure quarterbacks with just four. So we’re showing a punt, it wasn’t blocked. Devin Hester has this, you know its going to be a big return. 44 yards, inside the 10. Hester would normally make that last guy miss, I’m going to have to send him a text later. You gotta score. Matt Forte didn’t have a lot of carries. 12 for 103yds and that touchdown. That’s a Heath Evans touchdown right there. Just keep grinding, keep pushing. Guess what they still count for 6 points. That’s right. Look at all these lineman, this is what I love. This is an energized football team. They get it, they bought in to whatever Mike Tice is selling. Still the first quarter. The bears have an offensive touchdown, a special teams touchdown and a couple of seconds, maybe about seven or eight as Brian Urlacher not running real fast here, they’ll have a defensive touchdown. That move was nice though. It got him in the end zone. That’s the seventh interception return for a TD on the year. Here comes the ball punch! Four forced fumbles. Again, the number, 36 in his career. Ray Lewis, 19 forced fumbles. You have no idea how tough that is in full, live NFL speed to have that type of precision punching that ball. He does it every week. Look at that athletic play by Jay Cutler. On the move while stepping up across his body to Brandon Marshall, Bears up 28-2. This is an element that most people probably still don’t recognize about Jay but he is an outstanding athlete. He has to be behind that offensive line. We see Chris Johnson fumble once, how about seeing him fumble twice. That’s Brian Urlacher. That’s Lovie Smith though, wherever he’s been. This team is going to rake the ball every time they get a chance. It’s taught, this is not something that happens just by chance. This happens because its something they focus on every day at practice. Urlacher with the strip and Haden with the recovery. Nice job looking off there by Jay Cutler, can’t throw it much better than that. Brandon Marshall’s second TD of the day. I love that catch, you saw the little Randy Moss hesitation. Charles Tillman with another one. All the opposing NFL teams, you see 33 just hit the ground. That’s being a master of the craft right there. Jay Cutler off his back foot to Brandon Marshall. Third time they hook up. Charles Tillman says yes. There are pieces to that puzzle on offense. Tillman, we salute you as well. He’s headed back to the pro bwol this year but, pieces to that puzzle in place offensively. Forte better than 100yds, Marshall better than 100yds. Cutler, 3 TDs, no interceptions. Gotta see how it all unfolds against the better defenses. Bears with an NFL best 28 turnovers created after this game.
01:32:48:24/ Lions @ Jaguars
Its time for our very first highlight of the day. We told you one game is final. The Lions and the Jaguars. Calvin Johnson active after missing practice with a left knee injury. Matthew Stafford only found Tony Sheffler two times today. Nice job of looking down the middle and coming back an excellent piece of footwork there by Sheffler. I’d like to see Tony celebrate this because we know he’s on the all celebration team with hideous celebrations. That’s what makes them so good, they’re so bad, they’re good. Look at that, very calm. Calvin Johnson was big today. Over 100yds. Still has not been on the receiving end of a Matthew Stafford touchdown pass. What week is this? That’s crazy. This is their 8th game. He did have 7 catches, 129yds, averaging a little over 18yds per catch, which is not too bad. He had 11 TD catches at this point last year. With that said, this was a very efficient effort from the Lions offense today. 3rd down and 8 here, picking up third down. That’s a perfect pass, he almost got in. You’re a 6’5” 315lb wide receiver, you’ve gotta drag him in. He must not have himself on his own fantasy team. Maybe not. LeShoure would score to make it 14 nothing and he was big today as well. 16 carries, 70yds. Huge. How about that balance from the Lions. We never think of this offense and think of balance but today 285 through the air, 149 on the ground. I’m not sure they’ve had the ability to be balanced, concussion issues, but this team now Bell stepping up as well. Jaguars have not been that balanced. Looking for Justin Blackmon. Picked off by Eric ?. They show balance because they’ve been equally bad throwing it and running it. Blaine Gabbert and that’s an interception not on him. Off of Rashad Jennings, picked off by Jonte Green, returned 18yds to the 38. Fourth quarter, Lions on top 24-8, Bell. Looks sweet, I just don’t advise it. Keep your feet on the ground young fellow. At the very least, invest in a cup because that’s a very dangerous move. Looks pretty when it works out though. Very next play, Bell is again going to leave his feet. He ends up in the end zone, we know that much. Lions up 31-8 at that point and an easy win in Jacksonville. They didn’t have to wait until the 4th quarter to pull this one out. Somebody told them its okay to score points in the first half. You don’t have to come from behind. Lions, no issues. 31-14. And Jacksonville still just one victory. They fall to 1 and 7.
01:35:55:00/ Cardinals @ Packers
Let’s go to Lambeau Field, the Packers playing host to the Cardinals. Larry Fitzgerald TD in 3 of his last 6 games. Aaron Rodgers entering the game leading the NFL TD passes with 21. First quarter, Rodgers looking to Jordie Nelson, happy to have him back. Injured on the play, its ruled incomplete. That’s not going to make many people smile in Green Bay. He’s already suffering a hamstring injury and now he’s got a right ankle. Ruling says that incomplete pass, now throw it to Randall Cobb. Oh my goodness has he been quite an addition to that offense. Last year did some solid things, second all purpose yards behind Percy Harvin so far this year. He got to show all his talent today as we’ll see throughout this highlight reel. Packers up 7 to nothing, second quarter. Keep in mind Aaron Rodgers the last 3 games. 11 touchdowns, 0 interceptions. At some point he’s gotta throw a pick. It’s not necessarily his fault. William Gay just made an outrageously amazing play. How he comes up with this, the ball does not touch the ground, obviously Cobb could have had the catch, somehow it ends up a pick. Do you think money exchanged hands right there? There had to be something. Wow. William Gay’s first pick as an Arizona Cardinal. John Skelton, Andre Roberts, 40yds inside the 5. First and goal from the 3. You know what the Cardinals did better today? Protected their QB. Only 2 sacks of John Skelton. Rod Stevens howling. Nice job of finding the endzone around the right side, extra point tied the game at 7. He’s fast. He better be because he’s not very big. And just a little handoff and 21yds out to Randall Cobb for another Packer TD. Great catch. Here’s another good one. An excellent catch by James Jones, going up and coming down with it. Jones had 4 catches. Truthfully, what a great asset to have a bunch of wide receivers that can go up and make an average throw a great throw. Skelton threw it 46 times for 306yds. Here’s the best wide receiver in all of football, call me biased, it’s not even close. He’s the best by a landslide. Cardinals making a game out of it. Still trailing. Aaron Rodgers, he was less than 50% today. Only 14 out of 30 but 4 TD passes, 72yds here to Tom Crabtree. That’s shocking. Aaron Rodgers would have a performance where he completed less than 50% of his passes. 4 of his 14 completions were for TDs though. And how about the last 4 weeks. 15 TD passes and 1 interception. He’s pretty good. That 1 pick wasn’t exactly his fault. Green Bay improves to 6 and 3.
01:39:09:20/ Panthers @ Redskins
Panthers, Redskins. Washington wearing throwback uniforms from 1937. I can dig that burgundy. Panthers wearing throwback uniforms from last week. 5 straight losses for Carolina. 1st quarter, Panthers trailing 3 zip, Deangelo Williams runs around right edge, they’re glad they didn’t trade this guy! Into the endzone for 30yds. Play was initially blown dead. The officials thought Williams stepped out of bounds but they get together and rule it a TD. Deangelo celebrates, he’s excited, Panthers lead 7-3. 2nd quarter now, Redskins get the ball back, going for it on 4th and goal from the 2. RGIII sprints out to the right but Charles Johnson comes up with a stop. Redskins turn it over on downs after 16 plays. Not every game is going to be a Nike highlight. Panthers have the ball 2:36 left in the half. Cam Newton scrambles, tackled by Perry Riley for no gain. Newton gets up slowly, looking at his hand. Prompting the trainers to take a look, that’s a very expensive right hand right there. But he be okay. Stay in the game, three plays later. 2nd and 4 from their own 48, Newton looking for Steve Smith, pass is incomplete but London Fletcher gets called for roughing the passer. Watch it on the replay, that’s a couple of steps. Fletcher barely makes contact, Newton sells it. It’s like the NBA. He’s the new Vlade Divac. That moves the ball down to the Redskins 37, 2 plays later Cam Newton incomplete pass. His hand appears to be an issue now though. Newton looks like he’s having trouble gripping the football. Watch his reaction. Wincing in pain. Pants are covered in blood. This, my friend, is adversity. 2 plays later, Newton stays in the game, toughs it out. Steve Smith with a 19yd TD. Scoring play would be reviewed and upheld. Panthers lead 14-3 at the half. For Steve Smith, his first receiving touchdown all season. I like that little wiggle he did. 4th quarter now, Redskins trailing 14-6, RGIII is pressured and its Charles Johnson again. Gets him on the sack for a 5yd loss. Redskins would be forced to punt. Panthers would take over on their 9yd line. First and 10, Cam Newton looking for Edwards down the sideline and that’s about as open as you can get in the National Football League. He goes 82yds, Cam Newton is gonna throw an…no! He gets tackled at the Redskins 9. 2 plays later following a pass interference on Josh Wilson, 1st and goal. Cam Newton, yeah I’m keeping this to myself I don’t care how my aunt feels. Into the end zone, Panthers lead 21-6. Do it Cam. Take your jersey off. Let’s see the superman, take your jersey off. Let’s see it. There it is. Alright Cam. Same score, Redskins three possessions later, going for it on 4th and 4, RGIII scrambles. Gets spun around but picks up 8yds and the 1st down. Kuechly with the hit. Watch it again. Watch RGIII go airborne, kinda gets hydroplaned. Redskins keep the drive alive. 6 plays later, following 2 Redskins TDs that were called back because of penalties, its Evan Royster who gets in the end zone for the 2yd TD. Redskins trail 21-13. I’m kind of digging the flat finish on the helmets by the Redskins. Redskins line up for the onside kick, there it goes and its right to Steve Smith for the easy recovery. Panthers win 21-13. Cam Newton is saying, “yeah look, things are going to get bad for you, guys aren’t going to like you. Just keep with it. You’ll win at some point.” 21-13, the final.
01:43:06:00/ Vikings @ Seahawks
Very good running back, two of them on display in the Pacific Northwest. Adrian Peterson came in as the league’s leading rusher, Marshawn Lynch right behind him. But nobody is going to get AP on this. First series, here we go. Fresh legs. Back off that knee surgery, this is remarkable. I guess I lied. Brandon Browner does get him at the 1. Both of them are done. Peterson ran for 182 and a couple of scores. Second quarter, tied at 14. Percy Harvin and around. And watch out because of Sherman. Hey, now that hurt. What are they saying? Drive would result in the Blair Walsh FG and a Vikings 17-14 lead. That secondary can hit. Next Seattle possession. Look at this, Golden Tate simultaneously crossing the goal line, getting hit and losing the ball. That is an 11yd TD. Russell Wilson will finish the day with 173yds passing and 3 scores. 3rd quarter, Vikings down 10, Blair Walsh, the rookie, from 55yds out. Wow. Pete Carroll’s got a problem. He wanted to say he threw the flag. He’s right. As you can see, zeros before the snap. But that’s unreviewable, so the FG is good and the Vikings are down 7. Fourth quarter, beast mode. Out of the backfield, 23yd gain on this. He also ran for 124. End in a FG. The Seahawks, 10 point win. They’re unbeaten at home by the way.
01:45:01:00/ Steelers @ Giants
The Giants, 90% of their players still without power. It was a travel day for the Steelers who got on a plane, flew from Pittsburgh up to Newark, NJ to get ready. James Harrison said he hadn’t traveled on a game day since high school. In the meantime, the commissioner Rodger Goodell greeting many of the first responders and what a touching moment. All the players joining hands with the first responders and the star spangled banner. They did play the game and the Giants early on, a little sluggish. Eli Manning, looking for Victor Cruz, picked off by Ike Taylor. Ike Taylor came to play today. You get a little pressure on Eli now and then, he will give you one. In the second quarter, ensuing Steelers drive, Ben Roethlisberger keeping it alive, back of the end zone to Emanuel Sanders. That’s what Ben does, he’s patient in the pocket, he’ll leave if he has to but he found Emanuel Sanders. Nice, high throw. Very safe, where only he can get it. 7 zip lead, but the Giants do come back. Manning to Cruz. A little controversy here as he is clubbed. He’s hit good but he gets hit in the chest or ribs it seems. It wasn’t helmet to helmet. It’s shoulder to shoulder by Ryan Clark but they call a personal foul that led to an Andre Brown TD. They must have felt it was a little late. Next Steelers possession in a tie game. Roethlisberger, is this open hand, is it an incomplete pass? Michael Bowle says I don’t care, I’m running with it. You’ve got to finish the play, let the officials decide what they’re going to do with it. Is it incomplete or a fumble or tuck rule? Well remember all turnovers are reviewed, that’s a 70yd score. Ben’s like, “hey come back”. What do you think? He’s trying to pull that thing back, he’s not trying to throw that ball. So it was upheld. Mike Tomlin was like, “are you kidding me?” So you see he thinks that 2 calls have gone against him at this point. Now in the 2nd half, Roethlisberger, little play action. Looking for Mike Walls but it’s picked off by Corey Webster. Led to a Lawrence Tynes FG and a 20-10 Giants lead. That’s one Big Ben wish he could get back. Now in the 4th. 3rd and 5, Roethlisberger hitting Mike Wallace. And he does this as well as anybody. Great adjustment. First of all, blitz called, Big Ben checks off to a slant and he gets it and does what he does in that fly. 51yds on that touch. If you didn’t have a stopwatch available, it took him 7.3 seconds to cover that. Emanuel Sanders converted a little bit as well. When you have my last name you’ve gotta have game. Sanders is saying, “SMU baby! Jay Field!” 63yd punt return to the Giants 12. Roethlisberger to Isaac Redman, remember, no Mendenhall in this game. No Dwyer. But Antron Rolle stops him so Tomlin. Suisham to tie it but it’s a fake! That’s some good special team coaching right there. Very well done. Heads up now. Good job by the Giants now. The Giants, they go three and out. Steelers now in good position. Roethlisberger to Jericho Cotchery for 12yds inside the red zone and Eli who needs to brush his hair and doesn’t like it. And now, Redman fighting his way down toward the goal line. It’s a great run. Next man up, you’ve gotta make a play. 2 plays later, Redman does. So much versatility out of this backfield. Yeah, they’ve got 5 backs that are alternating in their because of injuries. They’re doing a great job at getting production from all of them. So the Steelers with a 4 point lead, under 4 minutes to go. Manning, he has more 4th quarter comebacks than anybody since the start of 2011, but here he loses the rock. The Giants do recover and they would have to punt. So now can they put the clamps on defensively? Roethlisberger, he does. As does Emanuel Sanders who made a great fake to get open for the 16yd gain. Giants have to burn their final timeout. Now on 1st and 10 you really need a stop, but they couldn’t get it. You gotta tackle. He was bunched up in there and all of a sudden he comes squirting out of there, this is huge. Stay on the field, let the clock keep running. Redman, 26 carries above 47 and the 2 crown jewels of that ’04 draft class that combine for 4 super bowl wins, this one an outstanding battle 24-20 the final in this one.
01:49:45:00/ Buccaneers @ Raiders
Buccaneers and Raiders, Doug Martin. 214 total yards last week, continues to just shred. His third TD of the game Buccs up 35-17. This is the game where Carson Palmer had his third career 400yd passing game for the Raiders. That little running back from St. Marys in Stockton is really the real deal. Another Ray Rice. Ran for 251 and 4 TDs. Wow. That is a Buccaneers record and they win it by 10.
01:50:25:00/ Cowboys @ Falcons
Only perfect team in the NFL are Matt Ryan and the crew. 21 with 19 and 2 in the month of November. You guys are not impressed by that. I’m impressed by this throw to Kevin Ogletree. This is a very good play to Ogletree. It was a deep throw, nice play by him. 63yds on that one. Then Romo, pressure, scramble. Tipped. See there’s the kind of stuff right there that makes you say damn. Led to a Dan Bailey FG and a Cowboys 6-3 lead. Second quarter, Matt Ryan, welcome Demarcus Ware. How do you not block Demarcus Ware? That was that running back who wanted to get out in the flat. Let’s buff that helmet. 3rd and 5 now, just before the half. Ryan to Roddy White. He and Julio Jones both had over 100yds. I could remember Mike Irvin going down and doing an interview with these guys and he asked him the question, “are you guys better than that tandem from Dallas?” and they looked at him and said, “you’re playing right?” Well this one to Tony Gonzalez set up a Matt Ryan FG. Tied at 6 at the break. 3rd quarter. Michael Turner, a little bit of a forgotten guy in this offense. Yeah, that went for 43 yds. Then on to the 4th, Turner finishes up what he kind of started. He’s like a bowling ball with legs. 3yd touchdown. So now Romo’s boys are down by a touch. Ensuing Cowboys possession, Lance Dunbar. That was on 2nd and 10. Romo is yelling at somebody, who is he yelling at? That’s a good question. Here he’s looking for Myles Austin. That’s a good catch but a little short of the first down so Dallas had to punt. Next Falcons drive, 2nd and 13 deep in their own territory. Ryan, Julio Jones! That’s a bad man. You understand why Atlanta moved up in the draft to get this guy. This guy is already emerging as one of the elite receivers in the game. 129yds receiving in this one and now that ball is tipped away nicely so the Falcons have to settle for a FG but they’re up by 2 scores at this point. Dallas has got to get it going. Romo to Jason Witten for 10yds. That’s career catch #751 which is the most in Cowboys history. Congratulations to him right there. He does deserve it, what a hard working guy. Translation, jerk. Translation is, they didn’t throw it to me like that. Next play, Romo to Kevin Ogletree. Where has he been since week 1? That’s a 21yd score and so the Cowboys are only down 3. All they need is a defensive stop, get the ball back in Romo’s hands, go no huddle like they did in that drive there. But here, Ryan to Julio Jones. That’s offensive pass interference. He’s a physical receiver. 3rd and 6, critical play, Ryan to Rodgers. He didn’t block Ware but he sidetracks Orlando, 31yds. If its 4th and 4 or 4th and 5, it doesn’t matter. You’re going to fly up to make this tackle. You walk up to make that tackle. What about this one? Incomplete to Roddy White, but Scandrick again. That’s the check down. Ryan looking for Roddy White, it’s incomplete. Clairborn had a chance at the pick but…that’s what these young receivers gotta do. Sometimes a receiver has to play DB. Now Ryan to Rodgers. That’s a tough tackle to make.
